Silly Jilly Designs

“I have been a keen crafter and up-cycler since a young age. I have been Influenced by elder family members who not only had careers in wedding dress making, knitting and furniture making, but thrived in a “make do and mend” era.

I started to make Teddy Bears as gifts, and soon discovered a passion for creating tactile form that was very different from its original purpose. I then combined my love of recycling reclaimed fabrics and materials sourced from old clothes and soft furnishings to create unique character toys, jewellery, and other seasonal decorations such as Christmas gnomes and wreaths. I love how limiting recycling can be which means each of my creations is unique, as you only have as much of that one ingredient to make the most of.”

I live in The Forest of Dean and sew at  home as often as I can””I source my materials from charity shops, jumble sales, and I am often given old clothes and accessories by friends who know I’ll use it. I have often horrified the very sweet cashier who has commented on how lovely a garment is that I’m buying by telling them it’s going to be cut up and made in to monsters!”
