“Suzie Ford started Ford & Guy in 2020 to create joyful clothing and products that respect the environment and the people in it. She is a self-taught designer and dressmaker who is passionate about combining her love for textiles with her ambition to make the fashion industry more responsible and ethical. Her main aim is to increase access to and choice in responsible products. This is not to increase overall product consumption, but to change the way that we think about the fashion industry.
Suzie’s clothing designs pay attention to silhouette, drape, comfort and how pieces can be worn together. She loves to combine both modern and traditional silhouettes along with dyeing and stitching techniques from around the world including batik, shibori and pojagi.
Suzie creates each piece in her workshop in Nottingham and she pays careful attention to where she sources her material from. She uses certified organic cottons, European linens and cellulosic fabrics to reduce the impact on the environment and support safe and fair working conditions for those constructing them. In addition to this, she works creatively to avoid the generation of waste. She does this by making her products either in small batches or to-order and she repurposes all remnant fabric. Small offcuts are incorporated into patchwork items and smaller products such as accessories.”
